What is the Spiritual Guidance Program?
The Spiritual
Guidance Program will offer training and support to encourage growth in the
ability to hear God and to hear each other more clearly.
During the nine
months, September – May, participants will learn about seasons of spiritual
growth and the spirit of the disciplines that facilitate this growth. You will have opportunities in a group
setting to develop skills for deep listening and personal discernment. Tools will be used that have proven effective
in decision making for centuries.
Through practices of Christian spiritual formation you will be prepared to become a spiritual companion to others, if you discern that is where God is leading you.
The Spiritual
Guidance Program is open to people of all faith traditions. We are rooted in the Christian tradition and
welcome any who want to learn in that context.
No doctrine of a
particular denomination will be taught. This program focuses on developing
personal relationships with God and others.
What is the Commitment?
Nine four hour monthly sessions. Read and discuss two books and the New
Testament.
Before
the first session, write a short spiritual autobiography. In May re-write this in light of the year’s
learning.
What will I receive?
1. Small group
experiences of a variety of prayer forms and types of Bible study methods.
2. Group
spiritual guidance.
3. Active
listening training.
4. Exercises in
discernment.
5. Teaching on stages
of spiritual growth.
Upon completion participants may:
1. Discern God’s call to begin serving as a spiritual
companion to others.
2. Be eligible for the
second year training to be a spiritual guide.
When is it?
Sunday evenings,
once a month
What does it cost?
$40/month,
including handouts, but not books. Scholarships are available.
Participants
will share in dinner plans.
